Abandoned Schiphol

During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic (april 2020) I travelled to the Dutch national airport Schiphol to portray the emptiness they were experiencing.

The airport closed five of its seven piers to create more space for parking planes that are grounded due to the pandemic. The number of flights and passengers had decreased over 90%.

From the 3 departure hall only one was still in use for repatriation flights, cargo traffic and emergency services.

The airport had never been so empty before and often looked like it had been abandoned. I tried to preserve these iconic images for our future history since we probably will never encounter such a moment ever again.
